Chapter One // Waking To The Truth

White Lie.  Wylii.  His name...meant that he was just the production of a small lie.  It was posted all over the trees.  All over the grass and the dirt and the air.  All over him.  Period.  Wherever he ventured he was given strange looks.  Sneers and glares of disapproval.  He could get peace no where.  Except for that one place.  That one little place that no one...absolutely no one could ever find.  His place and his alone.  This place was a little cave in the subtle Gimhetty Forest.  He'd lost his whole family here.  Well, this was where he'd lost everyone but his little sister, Laicos.  She'd only been a few weeks old when everyone started to disappear.  First it was Ecart, his father.  Whom he'd found dead only a few feet away from the lake at the far eastern part of the large forest.  A deep, bloodied gash was visible in his skin, and Wylii could tell that something had stripped the spot on his father's body completely.  There was no fur at all on the pinky flesh of the Wolf.  On top of that, the wound had been cleaned up.  There was no blood that had oozed onto the skin.  Only the open gash was bloody.  It was as if someone had doctored his wounds...after they'd made sure he was dead.  Wylii knew his father hadn't died just from being cut by some unknown thing.  He had been poisoned.  How'd the young Wolf know?  The blood that splattered the ground near his sire's left front paw was very watery.  It wasn't thick like it should've been.  A few weeks after that, Wylii'd found his mother in the same condition.  The only thing that was different was that the ground around and under his dam was clean.  There was no trace of any blood.  But again, the wound had been cleaned, as had the fur and skin around it.  This one too, was not surrounded by any of his mother's fur.  It was as if someone took a knife or a razor and carefully cut a complete circle around it.  His brother had been the next one he'd found...but he'd been killed or had died only a few hours before this time now.  Wylii still lay weeping next to the little Wolf's carcass.  Ramorit had a large gash across his forehead.  The fur had been stripped away in a triangular shape around the gash this time, however.  The cut had been cleaned up, along with the area around and under the pup.  Why'd the little one had a triangular shape of shaved skin around the gash...Wylii had no idea.  Maybe it was some sort of sign.  Around his father's open wound was a shaved square and around his mother's...a circle.  Whoever the killer was...he had something planned.  Wylii leaped to his feet.  There was only one more shape left.  That was a rectangle.  The last one to die...it had to be someone in his family!  "Laicos!"  A growl deepened in his chest and he leapt to his paws.  The last one.  It was either himself or Laicos.  Whoever was doing this though, had wanted him to find the bodies.  They had wanted Wylii to see what they'd done to his precious family.  What they'd done to his life.  Paws lifted as he broke into a dead run, tongue dropping in and out of his mouth as he leapt skillfully and quickly through the thick, green underbrush.  There was a fog drifting into the wood.  He had to get to her.  Hollow radars perked atop his head...he wasn't lost.  No.  It was hard to see, but Wylii knew this place like the back of his...er...paw.  Hollow radars perked forward atop his furred skull as a shrill sound echoed through the shadows.  It was Laicos!  The fog seemed to be disappearing a tad.  It was as if someone had simply called it in for the moment so they could make their move.  Now that he could see better he leapt forward again, stumbling only moments after into the tiny clearing.  Down, down, down.  He drug his form slowly into the den, expecting the worst.  Eyes scanned over what he could see...wait.  Why was it so bright in here?  His eyes searched and searched.  Ah!  He spotted Laicos, who was surrounded by two...no, three looming shadows.  They had no fur and no color, supposedly.  It was dark where they were, but light radiated around the small cave.  Another shrill shriek errupted from the little pups jaws as she caught sight of Wylii.  Little paws scrambled in circles as she darted out of the beasts' grasps as they were going down to grab her.  She skittered right under Wylii, finally stopping that annoying little screech, which...of course.  It directed the three creature's attention right on him.  He found his own lambrums to be lifting, exposing his fangs in a deadly snarl.  What was he to do, now?
